Tomorrow I have the privilege of serving as the keynote speaker at the Youth, I.N.C. 2013 Venture Forward Conference in New York City. In preparing my remarks, I’ve been thinking about how pro bono is ultimately not about getting a “wish list” deliverable, but rather, solving an underlying organizational need.
I remember well the first time I went to Taproot Foundation for help when I was serving as the Executive Director of Cabrini Green Legal Aid (CGLA) in Chicago. My first…

Through humanitarian trips to northern Thailand, Toys for Thailand volunteers deliver instructional, vocational, agricultural resources to residential hill tribe schools, severely under served by the local Thai government due to limited resources and political bureaucracy. The school children we provide for live in absolute poverty at village schools often lacking toilets, clean water or electricity and so remote, they are reachable only by four-wheel drive vehicles.
Our goal is to transform impoverished schools into dream schools, a designation given to a high quality model schools in Thailand. Since 2007, Toys for Thailand has provided extensive resources to support the Kings (Romklao PangTong) School and in 2011 the school was honored to receive a Dream School Award by the Thai government. Our current projects focus on: Assisting Huay Pooling, a primitive and remote school that houses 240 Karen children ages 3-16, to earn Dream School status. We are seeking support to develop Pooling’s agricultural program, expand their preschool center, and provide the school with a much needed water filtration system.
Promoting a greater awareness of the rich cultural traditions of the hill tribe children showcased at the annual Small World Mae Hong Son Festival. This unique festival brings together hundreds of hill tribe children and their teachers from remote schools in Mae Hong Son for an evening of tribal dance, music, food and cultural exchange.
Toys for Thailand, Inc is a non-profit public benefit corporation in San Diego, California. Our international group of volunteers have been providing tangible goods and services for orphaned, abandoned, and refugee children in Thailand since 2005.
Our focus is to support the health, education and welfare of hill tribe children with no underlying religious or political agenda.
We are in urgent need of your contributions to continue our work!
